I have vivid 4K memories of standing in the middle of my schoolyard sandbox back in Kindergarten. Wondering why when I stepped in to play with the kids, all the kids stepped out as if I had the Koo-dees or something like that. And even in my kindergarten mind I knew it was because the popular boy in the group, Peter Giddens, told everyone I was ugly, they all jumped on his bandwagon and believed him, and for that matter, so did I! This was my first experience with the spirit of rejection.
For a long time, way into my adult life, that was my truth! I was ugly. When the author, Napolean Hill coined the phrase, “Thoughts are Things” he was so right! It took many years for me to rid myself of that lie, and of the wound that cut me so deep, it dictated how I lived, and the decisions I made along the way, they were always tainted by that false belief throughout most of my life.
Sound Familiar?
Today the pain is gone, but the scar remains as a reminder of God’s definition of beauty written in His Word because I no longer believe what that little boy in the sandbox said about me. But I now wholeheartedly stand on God’s Word as it’s His Word that is Truth:
Meditate on the following scriptures and come to know & love YOU as God does. Once you accept these truths it will redefine the concept of aging and do so gracefully which will change your whole world.
Beauty is fleeting, but inner character endures. Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” While outward beauty changes, the kindness, compassion, faith, and resilience that reside within us are timeless. These qualities make us truly beautiful in God’s eyes.
True worth comes from being created in God’s image. Genesis 1:27 tells us, “So God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and our value lies in being God’s creation, not in the opinions of others.
God sees our hearts and loves us unconditionally. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” God doesn’t care about outward appearances; He sees our hearts and loves us for who we are. He wants us to love ourselves the way He loves us.
Inner Beauty Shines Through Adversity: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 reminds us, “Therefore we do not faint, though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” Even when life throws trials that may affect our outward appearance, focusing on our faith and inner character allows an enduring beauty to shine forth.
Finding True Worth in Christ’s Sacrifice: Isaiah 53:2-3 describes Jesus: “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance to delight us. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we did not esteem him.” Jesus, considered perfect by God, didn’t possess conventional beauty. His sacrifice highlights that true worth is found in the love and compassion we offer, not in outward appearances.
Renewal and Transformation Through Faith: Romans 12:2 encourages us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Though past experiences may leave scars, our faith allows for constant renewal and growth. By focusing on God’s love and strengthening our inner life, we can transform from past hurts and embrace the beauty of who He created us to be.
Oh, how I pray this world would come to know, believe, and live out the truth of God’s Word!
